Died in Madison County, on the 26th of November, Mr. Joseph C. RUTH, in the 32nd year of his age. He was born in Green County, Pennsylvania on July 31, 1852 and moved with his parents to Johnson County, Iowa in 1855 and from there to Madison County in 1875. He was married to Mattie A. BRUCE on February 25, 1878. (buried at the Gordon Cemetery)

The wife of Dr. A. B. SMITH died at daybreak on December 13th. Elsie SMITH was born in Fayette County, Indiana in 1839. She was the oldest daughter of John S. STILES and came with her family to Iowa in 1856. Two years later, in 1859, she was married to A. B. SMITH
