East Peru: Grant HOLE'S stepson, Sherman JACKSON, who was wounded in the Philippines
and lay for over a year in the hospital at San Francisco, is now at home. The gets
around tolerably well with a cork leg.
The startling news came to Winterset on Monday morning that the Rev. Samuel KRELL,
Pastor of the Methodist circuit at Locona, Warren County, had taken his own life.
The deed was accomplished just after returning from church on Sunday, the 13th inst.
He was a son of the late Adam KRELL and a nephew of J. H. KRELL, both of this city.
The KRELL families came to this county from Pickaway County, Ohio and settled in
Webster Township, where the subject of this notice was born in 1856. He married in
1879 a daughter of A. B. SHAW. The remains were brought home and taken to the Oak
Grove Church where funeral services were conducted yesterday. The internment was
in the Walker Cemetery, near his former home.
Alex SPENCE, who recently moved from Douglas Township to LaGrand, Oregon, died at
that place on last Tuesday. He leaves a wife and several small children.
North Jefferson: Mr. & Mrs. Avery WHEELER, living near North River, lost their
only child last week by scarlet fever.
Mr. & Mrs. W. J. SMITH, of Jackson Township, are cultivating the acquaintance
of a new daughter, born today, the 17th.
The youngest child and the only boy of the Rev. Mr. BURTON, of the Van Meter circuit,
passed away last Wednesday night of lung fever. His remains were taken to the old
home graveyard for burial.
The home of Mr. & Mrs. Joel CLARK was the scene of a surprise party last Friday
evening, in honor of George DARNALL'S 67th birthday.
