DARVILLE RITES ON THURSDAY
Services for Aged Man to Be Held in Morningside Church
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Morningside Presbyterian church for George Darville, 83 years old, a resident of Sioux City 32 years, who died Tuesday [Sept. 2, 1930]. Rev. J. Frank Reed, of Tekamah, Neb., will officiate at the church services and members of Monahan post, American legion, will have charge of the services at the grave. Burial will be in Graceland Park cemetery under the direction of Christy's funeral home. Mr. Darville, who lived at the Sydney apartments, had operated the
elevator at the E & W building for 32 years. Death was caused by apoplexy. Mr. Darville was born in 1847 in London, Eng., and at the age of 7 came to the United States, locating at Maringo [sic--Marengo], Ill. He
enlisted in the army at 15 and served with the Seventeenth Illinois cavalry during the civil war. At the close of the war he returned to Maringo [sic--Marengo] for a year. Later he moved to a farm near LeMars, where he lived until 32 years ago, when he moved to Sioux City. Elsie Reeves, of LeMars, and Mr. Darville were married in 1869. He was a member of the G. A. R. A daughter, Mrs Olive Burriff [sic--Burris] preceded him in death four years ago. Surviving Mr. Darville are: The widow; five daughters, Mrs. O. L. Britton of Tyndall, S. D., Mrs. D. J. Murphy of Sioux City, Mrs. Marion Graves of Ashland, Ore., Mrs. R. C. Jackson of Englewood
[sic--Inglewood], Cal., and Mrs. Grace Torkelson of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, Harrison M. and Lynn George, both of Chicago; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
